Basically speaking – we are all a little mental, but my family happens to have a taste of many of the most common mental illnesses out there – to include Major Depressive Disorder, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder; we even have Autism thrown in for giggles. Before my divorce, we also dealt with my husband’s PTSD. We’re a fun bunch – let me tell you! (To learn more about each of us, click here.) As each of these conditions came to light, the first thing I did was research on the internet. I found loads of information and support groups for each individual disorder but nothing (I mean NOTHING) on how to deal with life when these things overlap. So many of the articles and blog posts I read and videos I watched gave the impression that the singular condition was the focal point of the families sharing. My family just couldn’t work like that! Where were the other moms with depression that were trying to raise children with Autism or Bipolar or whatever? I knew I couldn’t be the only one! One of the main things those of us with mental illness need (even those without really) is to know that we are not alone. That’s the biggest reason for starting this blog is to let anyone out there who needs to know YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! Our family is just as messed up, crazy as yours; we are trying, just like you, to find our way through this life and enjoy the laughs when we can.
As a disclaimer – I am in no way, shape or form any sort of professional on any of the subjects I have or will talk about in this blog! I don’t have any answers to a better life, but I can share my opinions as well as what I and my family deal with day to day the good, bad, ugly and comical – and hope you can walk away with something positive. Thanks for being here!
